Long Tail Pro Review for 2018: Is This a Right Keyword Tool?

· SEO Tools
Author

I still remember how I searched in Google Keyword Tool to find a good keyword. As most SEOs say, I picked a phrase with low competition and high search volume. Then, I wrote an article focussing on the key phrase and upload to my website. But I never found it in the Google first page results. Today, I know we should also look in other key metrics beyond competition and traffic volume. Google Keyword Planner doesn’t reveal the important characteristics of a good search term. By saying that, the tool is still the best free one we can use. Read this page to learn why I wrote this Long Tail Pro review and why I hate free keyword research tools.

Free keyword tools provide just the basic functionalities compared to paid ones. We can find some data, but they hide other valuable information useful to us. How to use Long Tail Pro for finding better keywords

Let’s see how LTP works and how to find long tail keywords. It comes with a sleek user-friendly interface. There are 3 modules – Keyword Research, Competition Analysis and Rank Checker.

Keyword Research

To start your project, watch this demo video for keyword research in action:

Click on ‘Keyword Research’ on the left. Add your domain in the project to know faster good keywords you can target. By doing so, you can also see your domain authority score. Scroll down and find the keyword input bar.

Now, think of a seed keyword in your industry. For example, if you are selling gym items, it may be ‘gym equipment’. A seed keyword is a search word or phrase having broad meaning to your niche. By using such a keyword, LTP can fetch as many long tail keywords as possible used by people in Google. Enter a single keyword or more as you wish. You can set the number of keyword results for each keyword to be generated. Below the bar, there is also an option for you to set search traffic volume (minimum to maximum), CPC (min to max) and competition (low to high). Click Retrieve. Voila! The software has generated a list of keywords.

If you have already added your domain, probably you’ll see three colors under the Avg. KC column. Know what each color means to you:

Black means hard to try.

Yellow means worth to try.

Green means easy to try.

Avg. KC values in black are generally higher. Based on your domain authority, they may be impossible to try for achieving a position in Google top rankings. They are better to avoid.

KC values in yellow are lower. You can achieve top SERP rankings if you invest some time and efforts.

Green KC values are the lowest ones. Since the competition is very low, they are easy
to rank with a little effort. Look for such phrases with higher search volume
relevant to your niche and create content focussing on them for your site or
blog. You can achieve the desired rankings and boost traffic on your site.

Look at each column and know what they are:

KC: It’s the keyword competitiveness in Google organic search results.

Volume: It’s the volume of monthly searches.

Competition: It’s the  advertiser competition of each keyword in paid results. They are the useful data for Google advertisers.

Bid: It’s the suggested bid amount of each keyword useful to PPC marketers. AdWords users increase the bid amount if they want to outrank the competitive ads.

Rank Value: It is the estimated monthly value of ranking in the top organic results.

Lang and Loc: The language and local a website targets.

What if you don’t see any green KC values in the results?

It happened to me when I used Long Tail Pro for the first time. I thought why. Later, I came to know it’s due to the seed keyword chosen. In such cases, I look for any keyword of yellow KC values relevant to my topic and click on ‘+20’ in the left of it. So, I get 20 more low competition keywords. In this way, you can find out more and more profitable long tail keywords.

Competition Analysis

Now, let’s see the keyword difficulty of each search phrase as found in Google top 10 results. Click on any keyword you want to target. LTP quickly shows up a competition analysis report of the key phrase. Let’s see what’s in it. View the sample report below:

View the report closely and learn how strong or weak are the sites in there. Let’s see the values in each column of the report:

KC: This metric indicates how competitive the page is for this keyword. It is calculated based on page title and URL, Majestic Trust Flow, Citation Flow and backlink data.

Domain KC: It indicates how competitive the domain is for the keyword. It is calculated based on Majestic Trust Flow, Citation Flow and backlink data of the site.

Trust Flow: It is the Majestic Trust Flow predicting how trustworthy the page is other websites tend to link to.

Citation Flow: It is a value predicting how influential the URL might be based on how many other websites tend to link to.

Domain TF: It is the Majectic Trust Flow of the domain.

Domain CF: It is the citation flow of the site.

External Backlinks: It is the number of backlinks the page has from other sites.

Page Ref Domains: It is the number of unique domain linking to the page.

Root Ref Domains: It is the number of other websites referring to the root domain.

Indexed URLs: It is the number of URLs of the website or the content size of the domain.

Internal Links: It is the number of links from the page to other pages in the site.

Site Age: It is the age of the site. Older sites usually rank better.

Long Tail Pro quickly shows you the above data of each domain found in Google first page results. The report is an overview to check if your page can rank easily or not when you target the keyword. It is also the data which tells you what strategies you need to take up to beat the top ten competitors. For instance, if a competing page has three backlinks, you can build/earn three or more backlinks. In short, if you see more green values under the KC column and lower values under other columns in the analysis report, it tells that you have a higher chance of getting ranked in search engines.

How to use long tail keywords effectively?

Write better content or articles by focussing on them. As I found in the LTP site, they suggest us to do the following:

  • Include at least one image. Yes, images play a strong role to attract visitors as well as search engines.
  • Optimize the images by inserting ALT tag, relevant title and description. Search engines don’t know what the images are without those elements.
  • Cover the topic with in-depth information and data. Check the competitive pages. Add more new and helpful information in your page.
  • Keyword density should be 1% or less. Yes, keyword stuffing is an outdated technique.
  • Link to 3-5 relevant high authority sites.
  • Link to other relevant internal pages in your site.
  • Make sure the page has enough length based on the topic.
  • Make sure the page loads faster. Site speed is a Google ranking factor.
  •

You can add your own websites and client’s sites to generate hundreds of valuable search phrases for each site or blog.

You can manage the keywords based on KC values, competition, bid etc from highest to lowest or vice versa. It has also a filter option to find any search term contained in the list on any metric.

  • You can export the list to Excel spreadsheet.
  • CPC and Bid data are useful to AdWords advertisers.
  • It can suggest profitable domain name.
  • Competitor analysis report of each keyword is useful to check how much the competitors are strong or weak.
  • Rank checker is a good tool to check your site performance in search engines from time to time.
  • In each project created for a site, you can see the authority score of it.

  • There are many more useful features to explore as the skill of a user increases.

Long Tail Pro is one of my most favorite SEO tools. I am personally using it. It is also one of the best 6 keyword research tools chosen by us.

Comparison to other best keyword tools

LTP vs Semrush: Long Tail Pro is better for keyword research and finding long tail keywords while Semrush is better as a complete SEO software.

LTP vs Ahrefs: As for keyword research and backlinking strategies, Ahrefs is better. But for just keyword research and price factor, you’d like to choose LTP.

LTP vs Moz: Moz is better for almost all SEO tasks while LTP is best for finding long tail phrases.

LTP vs Serpstat: Serpstat is a new tool challenging Semrush as a complete SEO software. Just for keyword research, LTP is still a good choice.

    Cons:

So, they may feel some setbacks. Such cases may also happen to them with other keyword tools. But they can increase their skill quickly by watching the video tutorials or even connecting with the Customer Support Team.

    The Business Scope

How good or bad a thing is depends on person to person. How may Long Tail Pro help to achieve your goal? It’s up to you. To me, this software is great in my own ways as follows:

For my own sites: I try to find out easier to rank long tail phrases specific to my products and services. In most times, I select good search volume keywords below KC 25 and create good content for them. I do some optimization to improve page authority. After some time, I check my site rankings in Google. I see a rise of search engine traffic in Google Analytics.

As a freelancer: A year ago, I was working as a freelancer at Fiverr. I researched keywords for many site owners on any topic. I could make extra money from there. If you want to hire a freelancer just for $5 instead of using this software, Click Here.

For article writers: I have a team of SEO article writers. They are ready to write articles on any topic I give to them. I use LongTailPro for finding low competition, high traffic keywords for my clients. The writers write informative articles for the keywords given to them. My clients thanked me saying that the articles are very good and their sites can rank in Google with those keywords.

For guest blogging: I often search many sites offering guest blogging for link building opportunities. I pick the best ones out of them, then I add each of them as a new project in LTP to know their domain authority score. If so, it is easy for me to find which keywords are easy to rank in those sites. I write 500-1000 word articles and post to the sites. I received many ‘Thank You’ emails when the site owners found the articles ranked in Google.

For AdWords advertising: When I need to push a quick sale or promotion, I use
Google AdWords. From the keyword data generated by Long Tail Pro, I can easily
determine which keywords will perform well and which keywords to use or
optimize bid for my ads to display above the competitors.

For finding a good domain name or niche: A single website may not earn for us enough money. We need to look out if there is any other profitable niche we can start up. In this case, I use LTP to determine the traffic estimates of a new niche I can work. Then, I think of a good domain name from the keywords to start a new site and work on it to push the site to Google top positions.

They are some of the ways I use Long Tail Pro. How useful it is depends on the person who uses it. Anyone in online business can use it in his own useful ways. Most people in affiliate marketing will find this tool very useful to find more specific buyer keywords.

My conclusion: Try this powerful software for 7 days for free, or buy and use it. If you feel it is not for you, you can cancel the subscription anytime.
